Mission Motorsport is the official charity of 3CDSE 2019
On February 4th Mission Motorsport, in partnership with Silverstone Circuit, hosts the first Mission Motorsport Silverstone Troops Trackday.
The event will be the single largest recovery sport event put on by The Forces’ Motorsport Charity in its 7 years of operation. It will see over 100 supercars and 250 beneficiaries attend to sample Britain’s fastest and most famous Formula 1 circuit. Each car giving up their passenger seat for the day in order to take those individuals on hot laps of the track. Alongside this there will be the opportunity for beneficiaries to get behind the wheel of specially adapted Mission Motorsport fleet vehicles and industry partners providing heavy vehicle driving experiences.
In addition to the track activities the day is also being used as a fundraiser for Mission Motorsport. We rely entirely on private fundraising to stay afloat and we’re hopeful that bringing together a large and varied group of industry, defence and other commercial supporters and sponsors will help see us fundraise much needed cash to provide the other 264 days of output in 2019.
The Aim of Mission Motorsport is to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by military operations, by providing opportunities through Motorsport. Through participation in competition, our strong team ethos helps to inspire and rebuild confidence; while the development of skills including mechanical competencies, logistics, and management all build capacity for a brighter future.
The Forces’ Motorsport Charity, whose motto is “Race Retrain Recover” is MoD’s competent authority for motor sport as a recovery activity, and is a Royal Foundation (the charitable trust of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex) Endeavour Fund initiative. A Service Charity and a member of the Confederation of Service Charities, Mission Motorsport has an award-winning collaborative model of working with government and the other service charities. It is funded by industry partners and independent fundraising.
As part of the MoD’s Career Transition Partnership, the charity helps those leaving the military to find employment in the automotive industry. A City and Guilds training provider, Mission Motorsport’s Training Wing delivers Level 3 Diploma courses and full apprenticeships enabling service leavers to bridge the gap between military service and second careers as civilians, beyond injury.
In its six years of operations, Mission Motorsport has delivered more than 4,500 training days of sport for 1400 wounded, injured or sick beneficiaries, leading to over 300 placements and over 130 jobs. The Charity’s veteran employment programs have paved the way for over 1,500 veterans into employment in the Automotive Industry.
